2012: Jackie is born in Big Bear Valley

Ricky and Lucy's first recorded valley chick was initially named Jack, then renamed Jackie once watchers realized the chick was female and larger than both parents.

2015: The nest cam goes live

Friends of Big Bear Valley installed the first camera after years of fundraising and planning, opening the nest to a worldwide audience without disturbing the birds.

2018: Stormy fledges and Shadow arrives

Jackie raised Stormy from her first clutch, while an intruding male later named Shadow refused to leave and eventually became her long-term mate.

2022: Spirit hatches after heartbreak seasons

Spirit became a bright turning point after multiple failed hatches and losses, and she fledged successfully on May 31, 2022.

2025: Sunny and Gizmo make history

Sunny and Gizmo became the first pair Jackie and Shadow fledged together, while Misty was tragically lost in a storm during the same triple-hatch season.

2026: Ravaged first clutch, active replacement clutch

The first clutch was breached on January 30, 2026, but Jackie laid again beginning February 24, 2026, keeping the season active and closely watched.
