The Big Bear Eaglets

One reason the Big Bear cams matter so much is that the eaglets are remembered individually. Their names, fledge dates, losses, and later discoveries all turned the nest into a long-running public memory.

Context

Not every chapter ends the same way

The nest story includes triumph and loss. This page keeps both in view rather than flattening everything into a highlight reel, because that is part of what made the original Big Bear pages feel honest and grounded.

Profiles

Named chicks tied to the watched nest

Fledged 2025

Sunny

Sunny hatched on March 4, 2025 and fledged on June 2, 2025 at about 90 days old, becoming one half of the pair that marked Jackie and Shadow's first two-chick fledge season.

Fledged 2025

Gizmo

Gizmo hatched on March 8, 2025 and fledged on June 7, 2025, just days after Sunny. Together they became a historic sibling pair in the Big Bear story.

Lost in storm 2025

Misty

Misty was the first of the 2025 triple hatch, then was lost during a multi-day snowstorm. The season's joy and grief sat unusually close together because of this loss.

Fledged 2022

Spirit

Spirit hatched on March 3, 2022 and fledged on May 31, 2022. She became widely remembered for staying close to an unhatched sibling egg in the nest.

Fledged Later deceased

Simba

Simba fledged in 2019 and was banded, which extended the public thread of his story beyond the nest. He was later found deceased elsewhere in California.

Lost in storm 2019

Cookie

Cookie hatched alongside Simba in 2019 but did not survive a storm, making that season another mix of success and loss.

Fledged 2018

Stormy

Stormy, from Jackie's first clutch with Mr. B, became one of the breakout eaglets of the camera era and helped cement the nest's early public following.

Lost young 2018

BBB

BBB was Stormy's sibling and was lost early, one of the first reminders in Jackie's timeline that every season can turn quickly.

Takeaway

Why the eaglet page matters

It explains the emotional weight

Each new egg is viewed through remembered chicks, not as a blank slate.

It shows how rare a two-fledge season was

Sunny and Gizmo mattered because the story beforehand included so many interrupted or partial successes.

It keeps the history human-readable

Named chicks turn a long wildlife archive into something visitors can actually follow.
